The History of INCorrections Network Qld In 2004 a number of organisations who worked with prisoners pre and post release came together and collaborated to produce a report entitled INCorrections. This report was written by Dr Tamara Walsh and chaired by Bill Carter QC, former Supreme Court Judge and Jackie Huggins, respected Indigenous Academic. This report investigated prison release practice and policy in Queensland and its impact on community safety. The report concluded with 54 recommendations. In order to discuss the findings contained in this report and to obtain a regional picture, a series of community forums were held in six regional hubs where prisons are located. A final forum took place at Brisbanes Parliamentary Annex. The community forums proved to be a huge success, attracting State wide media attention and between 600-700 participants. The majority of these participants indicated that they would like to be kept informed of future developments and further outcomes. The enthusiastic response to this issue indicated that there were real concerns about this topic that were not being addressed. Many of the organisations and individuals who attended were previously unaware of the interconnected issues throughout the state. These forums prompted an official response to the INCorrections Report from the Qld Government and resulted in ongoing dialogue on this topic. They also prompted the birth of an ongoing network the INCorrections Network. In 2006 a small amount of funding was granted for a year project aiming to focus the network into a efficient and sustainable mechanism in order to improve service delivery and advocacy.
